Professional Visit Pass (PVP)

The Professional Visit Pass (PVP) in Malaysia is designed to allow foreign professionals to undertake short-term assignments, contract work, or specific project-based roles within Malaysia. The purpose of the Professional Visit Pass (PVP) is to facilitate knowledge exchange, skills transfer, and professional development by enabling foreign experts, researchers, trainers, volunteers, and interns to contribute to the Malaysian economy on a temporary basis. The Professional Visit Pass (PVP) is especially beneficial for industries and institutions seeking specialized expertise without the need for long-term employment, supporting Malaysia’s goal of enhancing its workforce and fostering global collaboration. By allowing foreign nationals to engage in various professional activities temporarily, the Professional Visit Pass supports the strategic objectives of industry growth and talent enrichment.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The hiring company must be successfully registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) 
  • The applicant must meet one of the following categories:
    • Category I: Expertise Transfer
    • Category II: Research
    • Category III: Training at ESD-registered companies
    • Category IV: Volunteers
    • Category V: Exhibitors under the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB)
    • Category VI: Student Internship* under:
      i. Foreign Embassies
      ii. ESD-registered companies
      iii. Hotels (*Must align with the applicant’s education background)
  • For Hotel Trainees:
    • Applicable to hotels rated 4 stars and above.
    • Hotels rated 3 stars may apply but only for Indonesian trainees.
    • Limited to 25 trainees at any one time.
    • Maximum training duration is 6 months, with no renewals.
    • The trainee is eligible for only one training stint in any Malaysian hotel.

Features:

  • This pass allows the holder to engage in temporary employment or contracted activities within an ESD-registered company.
  • The maximum contract duration is 12 months, with a restriction of one contract/project at a time.
  • The position is non-salaried.
  • Payment and endorsement for the Professional Visit Pass (PVP) can be completed online, and delivery is managed through Pos Malaysia.
  • Processing time is approximately 5 working days.

Conditions:

  • The maximum duration for holding the PVP is 12 months, with no extensions allowed beyond this period.
  • For PVP extensions within the 12-month period, applications must be submitted at least 1 month before the pass expires, without requiring the applicant to exit the country during the processing.
  • All PVP applications must be approved with an Approval Letter before the applicant enters Malaysia for employment.
  • Applicants must collect their Single Entry Visa at their respective embassies or apply online via the eVISA website (only applicable for visa-required nationalities).
  • Once the applicant enters Malaysia, they have 14 days to endorse their PVP sticker.
  • If there is a change of employer while the PVP is still valid, the pass must be canceled, and the applicant must exit Malaysia before applying for a new PVP with the new employer.
