Social Visit Pass Internship (SVP-I)

The Social Visit Pass for Internships in Malaysia allows international students to participate in short-term, professional development programs within ESD-registered companies. To qualify for Social Visit Pass Internship (SVP-I), the host company must be registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) and gain approval for each placement. Eligible students must be enrolled in a degree or equivalent program at an accredited institution abroad. The pass supports a range of activities, such as internships, mentorships, industrial training, and student exchange programs, lasting up to three months or based on the applicant’s nationality requirements. Social Visit Pass Internship (SVP-I)  facility ensures a structured, temporary experience for international students in Malaysia.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The hiring company must be successfully registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) 
  • ESD-registered companies intending to host short-term placements for international students must seek permission for this facility; AND
  • The student must be enrolled in a degree program or equivalent at a recognized university or institution abroad (outside Malaysia).

Features:

  • This facility applies to international student mobility programs for a duration based on the student’s eligibility for a Social Visit Pass, as determined by their nationality; or for a maximum period of up to three (3) months. Programs exceeding this duration must apply for a Professional Visit Pass.
  • Eligible programs include student exchanges, internships, industrial/practical training, mentorship, and other similar activities.

Conditions:

  • The host company must be registered in the ESD online portal.
  • Applications must be submitted by the host company via the ESD online portal.
  • The program participant (student) must be overseas at the time of application.
  • The student’s passport must have at least 12 months of validity remaining.
  • The participant can only engage in the program approved by the host company.
  • Participants are not allowed to bring dependents.
  • Upon completing the program or upon the pass’s expiry, participants must leave the country. Extensions are not permitted.
  • Students from countries requiring a visa must obtain one before traveling and will be issued a Single Entry Visa (for applicable nationalities).
  • The program’s duration will depend on the country’s eligibility.
  • Immigration officers have the discretion to endorse the Social Visit Pass.
